A mechanistic view: enabled by deep learning!

Recent studies have suggested that the deep neural networks resembles the brain in many ways, both anatomically and functionally. As a result, we can potentially train deep learning models to mimic the functional activity profiles of our brain. Now that we have these brain "emulators", we can potentially simulate brain-like response patterns corresponding to new visual inputs, such as an unseen image.
